Steven M. Fincher
Why Do We Practice Civil Law?
Throughout my career, I have helped a diverse array of clients. In addition to my local government practice, I am also a registered mediator. This breadth of experience allows me to consistently provide the highest-quality service to each of my clients.
I have seen much, therefore I am usually able to help clients from the point we initiate contact. With over 36 years of specialized experience in local government law, public finance, land use, planning & zoning, and eminent domain, I have been recognized as a Local Government SuperLawyer® for six consecutive years. I have been the appointed City Attorney (General Counsel) for nearly twenty cities and three other local governmental entities.

What Makes Our Law Firm Special?
We know our client’s business. We handle important work for our clients, so it is important we understand what they do and how they do it. We are responsive and accessible. I return my phone calls and my e-mails. I do my best to return them within an hour, certainly within a day. If a client has an issue that needs a lawyer’s opinion, it’s not usually something that can wait until next week. I expect all the FD lawyers to follow the example I set. Client communication is important. We provide value on even the most basic legal work. Whether it is being proactive with our legal advice, helping our clients save money, or helping them make money, we believe in giving them the best return as possible on their legal dollars.
Over the course of my 36 year career, there is not much I have not seen. Because of that, I am usually able to help clients from the first phone call, either by helping them myself or pointing them in the right direction. I am also able to serve as a resource for other attorneys in our firm. This saves our clients time and money.
My experience comes from serving as General Counsel for nineteen cities and local governmental entities in South Fulton, Clayton, and Henry Counties, as well as Special Counsel to dozens of cities, counties, authorities and school boards throughout the State of Georgia. That experience has earned me the respect of my peers, who recognized me as “A-V,” the highest rating they can give for legal competence and ethics, as well as a SuperLawyer designation.
“Core Values” is a buzz word in today’s management practice. A “must have” in every firm’s policy statement. Long before it became something that was popular to share with the public, we have had one basic rule, “it’s never wrong to do the right thing.” It applies to how we treat our clients. It applies to how we treat our employees. It applies to how we work in our community. It will apply to how we will treat you.
