John T. O’Neal
Why Do I Practice Criminal Defense?
I am a hardworking and focused attorney with countless hours in litigation. Whether a case is trial or settlement, I am a zealous advocate. As an Assistant State Attorney in Florida, an Assistant District Attorney in the Augusta Judicial Circuit, and a civil litigation associate, I have worked on virtually all aspects of civil and criminal litigation, including: drafting charging documents and pleadings; preparing and answering extensive written discovery; taking and defending depositions; and arguing at motion hearings.
Those positions have afforded me great responsibility in negotiating and trying cases. I have tried over 20 jury trials, criminal and civil, the vast majority of them as lead chair. I have tried non-jury trials and numerous violations of probation/probation revocation hearings as well.
As a prosecutor, I secured convictions in a majority of the criminal jury trials, the probation hearings, and in the non-jury trials. I also sat as first chair in a civil jury trial and secured a favorable verdict. My rate of success speaks volumes of my drive, attention to detail, and commitment to the task at hand.

How Will You be Treated by Our Firm?
I offer organizational and time management skills that are immediately transferable. Previously as a state prosecutor, I was assigned to anywhere from 70 -100 active cases. I was responsible for all aspects of the cases assigned to me and was required to ensure that all cases were resolved in an acceptable and thorough, yet expeditious, manner.
As a private attorney, I have had duties in numerous cases and handled several of those cases from start to finish: complaint to settlement or trial. In short, my previous positions have taught me the skills necessary to effectively and efficiently manage a heavy caseload. If you or your office could benefit from a diligent professional with my background, please contact me at your convenience to arrange an interview or consultation.
